Fiscal scrutiny, a must

Considering that this is my first article on the blog, I thought I should write about something that will find tremendous interest among the viewers. There has been so many controversaries happeing in the game of cricket that sometimes fans across the world feel cheated. Claims of match-fixing and betting can destroy the game as well as its viewership across the world. Authorities & Administrators in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) must realise that the Games Are Serious Business. Look at what is happening to games like Hockey and Atheletics. People have lost interest in such games thanks to the mismanagment of the authorities. From being the national game of our country, it has turned to be a sport with very little interest and viewership.

Infact the other day I read an article by Times Now Journalist Boria Majumdar regarding this and he was correct in espousing the need for government intervention in state-funded sports federations like the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). Many of these autonomous federations have become defunct organisations due to incompetent administrators. Therefore, they require closer fiscal scrutiny by the sports ministry given that it is taxpayers’ money that is being spent to promote sports in the country. The International Olympic Committee should be accommodative of the sports ministry’s efforts to clean up the mess instead of taking umbrage under the guise of protecting the autonomy of such sports federations.
