Toshiba Portege R700 – The cool one!!!

It is a well known fact that Dell and Hewlett Packard (HP) are two dominant players in the laptop market. But come one let us not underestimate the performance of the Laptops and notebooks from other manufacturers as well. Companies like HCL, Lenova and Toshiba are coming up with some exciting models.

Toshiba is one company that has been underplaying in this market. I personally feel that they come out with some of the best performance oriented laptops. After a worldwide launch of the Toshiba Portege R700 slim business laptop, Toshiba India has decided to bring the lappie to India as well. Generally the problem we face with laptops is that it gets heated up on excessive usage. Now to do away that problem, the Portege has a 13.3. inch screen and boasts of the “Airflow Cooling Technology”. This brilliant technology  co-developed  with Intel  allows the Toshiba to sport an Intel Core i3/ i5 processor.

Apart from that the Portege R700 comes with a 8GB of RAM and Toshiba claims that the laptop can run up to eight hours on a single battery charge. The Toshiba also has a built-in optical drive that has a “Hard Drive Impact Sensor” . This sensor will protect the hard drive from any kinds of shocks and rough usage. With such technology implmented in this laptop,  the pricing of the Toshiba Portege R700 is fairly competitive between the Rs. 65,000 to Rs. 75,000 range depending on the system specifications.

Will Dell Streak steal the thunder??

I have never seen so much anxiety among tech lovers. Its only when Apple decides to launch some thing new, there is a buzz…unmatched excitement. We tend to forget things happening around us. Did you know guys that two days before the Apple iPad  was all set for its global launch, there was another Tablet PC that was launched. HMMM…(Even I wasn’t aware of it).

The world’s second-largest PC maker Dell had unveiled its Tablet PC called the Streak. The Streak is almost half the size of that of iPad and is Dell’s bold attempt to grab a share of Tablet PC market which is seeing a host of new devices from PC makers across the board. Apart from Dell there was another launch last month. Another leading PC maker HP  had unveiled its Tablet PC called Slate. So will the US telecom giant Motorola be far behind. The company demonstrated a prototype media Tablet that could be ready for commercial launch in the coming months. Had enough…no…ok read on!!! Asus is also planning to launch a 10-inch Tablet-style netbook this year. Now this is what I call competition. So many Tablet PCs ….Looks like the consumers will be spoilt for choice.

But then can Dell Streak steal the Apple iPad’s thunder. You have to accept that Ipad is one device that sold more than 1 million units in its first 30 days of the US launch. Looks like only time can answer, but here is a look at the key specs of Dell Streak.

This device sports a 5-inch (12.5-centimeter) WVGA screen which features a multi-touch display. However, the Streak is smaller in size compared to the Apple iPad which has a 9.7-inch (24.6-centimeter) diagonal LED-backlit glossy widescreen multi-touch display.  But Size can matter at one point becuase portability will always remain a vital factor. The Streak is powered by Google Inc’s Android operating system, the Android 1.6. Not just that the Tablet will get the latest Android 2.2 update when it will be available. The tablet will be operational  on 1GHz Snapdragon ARM-based mobile processor from Qualcomm.
